Callahan - Basketball in 2026

It's a new year ... what is in store for Callahan?
This will be a post in progress ... updating throughout the year.

Some snapshots from Q1/2026 (Jan/Feb/March)

Cal and Co started the year by packing up and taking a little trip to Idaho. They dominated ... two games on Friday, January 16, and another game Saturday January 17 ... and then the championship. They got the win.

Back home in Utah ... Cal and Co were signed up for the

He also played in a Thursday Winter League at South Jordan.

They took 2nd at SJ, but got the top spot at T-ville!

Cal played in a weekend tournament too (at Alta and Jordan) and I was able to watch/video the three Saturday games ... 2nd place there, so close! It was a very full week, with 10 games in 8 days (between three different leagues/teams).

As the Spring Leagues opened up, Cal&Co missed making it into the Monday league, so Ben&Jerrys is back on Wednesday nights. Cal's Elevate made the deadline, so they (and Cal) are playing Mondays as well. He's also hitting some Sunday games in Herriman.

Callahan - Basketball 2025

This will be a post in progress ...
updating throughout the year.

Cal still LOVES basketball ... he plays in several different Men's Leagues and Tournaments, sometimes heading up the team, other times being asked to play on various teams with players he's met along the way.  If I can make it out to a game, I try to. I still enjoy watching and videoing, and the boys seem to enjoy seeing the highlight reels.

Cal hadn't gotten his usual team together at Taylorsville since summer last year. They had been playing in the Wednesday night league, but there hadn't been enough teams signed up for Fall, and then they didn't make it in for Winter. Cal's basketball buddy Rowland had a team playing on Mondays at Gene Fullmer, and he joined them. Nice and close for me to drive to.

Winter Gene Fullmer League 2025
I remember I got the first text from Cal on January 6, at 6:00 saying he had a game at 7:00. He said this league had some teams that weren't as challenging, and that it would likely be a blowout ... several of the games turned out that way, although they lost one I watched, and then Cal was out of town for the finals/championship.  I made it to four games. January 6. January 13. January 27. February 3.  With all of Colton's Clackamas games going on, I wasn't getting to all the highlight videos in a timely manner. Cal stepped up and said he'd go through his game clips (saving me some time and repetition).

Cal was also playing in a league at the South Jordan Rec Center. He hadn't mentioned this one to me until it was over. I really wish I'd made it to their semi/championship game, as they won it! A couple of the guys (JoJo Elliot and Austin Evans) I know from previous years.  It wrapped up in March.

... and back to Taylorsville/Spring Semi-Comp, now playing on Mondays with a mixed team. Several from the previous Wednesday team and the Bolman Brothers. Going with the "Chillers" name and Rowland as "Coach".  I didn't hear about the first game until about an hour before (and I wasn't able to pull together and get there in time).I made it the next week, so there's a video of the April 21 game. Then Cal and Kate went on a trip to Italy and he missed two weeks. Highlights from 04/28, 05/19 and 06/02.  There was a playoff game June 9, but they didn't make it to the championships.

There have also been games at The Training Zone in Herriman on Sunday afternoons. When Colton was in town for Spring Break, he played with Cal in a game (and that provides me with a ride). March23. The brothers played together again at a game when Colton was home for the summer. July 13. Another tournament together (highlights from just one game, Aug 17 although they had a later game too. The team had Saturday games, but Colton was injured and Cal had other plans).

With Spring season over, the Summer League at Taylorsville started up ... still Chillers for the team name. I didn't make the 9:00 games, and I missed game 4 ... Cal missed game 4, as that was the semi/championship for a different league he was playing in (see below). Colton filled in for Cal at the August 18 game, and they got the win, and I wished I could be at both!

I have highlights from Game 3, Game 5, Game 6 and Game 7 and then from the Playoffs on 9/22, and the Semi-Finals and Championship on 9/29. The first game was at 6:00, with the other two top teams battling it out at at 7:00 (and the lower seed won) then the championship game at 8:00.

Got the win!

As mentioned, Cal played in another summer league ... Copper View in Midvale. I didn't know any of the other guys on this team, and didn't find out about the league until the end, Monday/August 18, when the playoffs (semi-finals and championship) happened. I went out to watch, and video, and caught my favorite photo of Callahan (the one with his hair sticking up, which was also my doing).  Highlights from the Semi-Final game HERE, which they won, and the championship game HERE, which they unfortunately lost. Very close, and I recall one of Cal's teammates quite unhappy about it (there was some swearing).

Bring on the final leagues of 2025 ... Fall season at both  Taylorsville and South Jordan (links to the schedules, I'm not sure how long they last). Both leagues ended up with 2nd place in the Championship ... they still get a t-shirt. Cal seemed fine with the loss in the SJ league, but not in the Tville one.

Taylorsville Season Schedule and Standings
Back to Ben and Jerrys for the team name...

I have highlights from Game 1, Game 3, Game 4 ... I have video from Game 7 and the Semi and Championship on December 8.  The South Jordan league started and ended a bit earlier ...

Again, Cal hadn't let me know about this league until a little later in the season, so the first game I attended was Game4 (here's highlights). Cal didn't make it to Game 5 (family trip to Wyoming) so I didn't either.  I have video from Game 6 and Game 7 and from the Semi and Championship.

I got a little behind in my highlight videos ... even with Cal's help going through the clips, although he got a little behind on doing that too. If/When I turn video into highlights, I'll update here.

Cal (&Colton) Men's League 2024

Basketball Brothers
Cal and his crew have been playing in the Taylorsville Men's Semi-Competitive League for a few years now. Wednesday nights, a league for each season. Guys from the old Copper Hills basketball team along with whoever else they add (Colton comes during the summer season). This is a Semi-Competitive league (they once accidentally signed up for a rec league ... they need the higher level!)

WINTER
Winter season was January - March. Colton had his high school games going, and Wednesday nights are book club, so I only made it to one of the games this season. You can see the highlights HERE. Cooper went through the clips for me and laughed, as Cal had an open layup that didn't finish. Cal's face reflected the feeling, and Landon and Colton thought it was pretty hilarious too (Landon even made a little GIF of it). I asked Cal about the team name ... They are Ben and Jerrys (as Ben and Jared are two of their players).

SPRING

Semi-Finals/Championship June 19
They lost in the semi-finals by five ... so no Spring T-shirt. I guess I never got around to making a video of that final game. I was there watching and got video. It is so fun to see both Cal and Colton playing together (for the May game, Colton was available, but Cal had a full team. Other times they struggled to field five players!)

SUMMER

For some reason Cal couldn't sign up as Ben&Jerrys, so they were Hoopers Only for this season. I was able to attend all but week 6, which of course was their double header (so I missed two games). Colton was available for all the summer games, and won an award at the end of the season for being the leading scorer in the league.  He was off to college for the playoff though ... Cal was gone for the semi-finals, but the team got the win ... and it was on to the championship game!

September 18, 2024

They got the T-Shirt!

Callahan (he's kind of the "coach" or at least the one in charge of getting them signed up) got the team registered for the Fall season ... but the rec center didn't get enough teams for the semi-comp Wednesday night league. There is also a Monday option, but by the time Cal found out the Wednesday night league wasn't happening, the Monday league was filled. No Fall Ball :(   We joked that they'd scared all the other teams away, and Colton chimed in that they really didn't want to play without him anyway.

Cal (and Colton) and the Tville Men's League 2023

Cal and Company have continued to play ball when and where they can. They found a fairly competitive men's league at the Taylorsville Rec Center, so that has been the go-to for games. Colton can't play during the high school season, but filled in during the summer. Cal even got Keaton out once!

This year the Taylorsville Men's League replaced the curtain between courts from a white sheet to a bright red divider. Makes for a distinct backdrop for all the T-ville Rec Center games.  And the team name, Ben & Jerry's? The two boys (left, front and back) are Jared and Ben. Also pictured are Cal, Colton, Charlie, Trevor and Austin.

I attended one game in the first tournament of the year. Busy season, with Colton's Junior year in full swing. I never got around to making a highlight video from it ... but maybe I'll still get to it! I was able to snag the stats, and got a couple pictures. Cal had got a pretty good floor burn on his knee, and I took a picture of it after the game. A few days later (while Cal was off on a work job at Bear Lake) that knee swelled up something terrible and Cal couldn't walk on it at all.

The Ben and Jerry's started off the year claiming the championship!
It wouldn't be their only one!

I went to several games over the summer season, a few into fall ...

This championship game finished up right before high school basketball started up for Colton. Another injury (elbow to the eye) for Cal. Pictured here, Jared, Colton, Stockton, Charlie, Cal, Big D and Austin. Ben was busy with school this session.

Coach Cal and Crew ...
Staying busy with basketball!

Cal ~ Men's League 2022

This will be backdated to 2022
Cal and crew (including the occasional Colton) continue playing the game ... ball is life! The guys tried out a Gene Fullmer league during the summer, but that was a mistake, as it was pretty much a rec league. These guys need at least semi-competitive ... so it was back to Taylorsville, where there are some teams that can at least give them a challenge.

I didn't make it to all the games, but I went to a few.
Here's some highlights ...

Callahan Continues ...

I always said that Callahan didn't just LOVE basketball, but he LIVED basketball. After his Varsity season, as he's graduated from high school and moved onto life, with school/work/relationships, basketball did move to the background. But he still enjoys playing.  I don't get to many of his games, but I hit a few here and there.

Here's a game from a while back ...

Spring of 2019 he played in the T-ville league - They got the T-shirts!

Summer of 2019 Cal joined some CHHS Alumni for the annual Alumni tournament. As most of Callahan's graduating class was gone (only Stockton was around) so they joined the 2016 graduating class, and the won the tournament!

Cal was having fun playing with some of the old crew again.
Dimple Dell League. Fall 2019.

Here's Highlights ...

Unfortunately ... Cal broke his foot (reminiscent of 8th grade!) the next week. So back to a boot for several weeks while he recovered. He is back on the courts though. Playing with his buddies some nights during the week, and planning on some competitive church ball. Maybe I'll go see him play.
